Your date night outfits are sorted.

Stuck on what to wear for your next date? Planning date outfits can be stressful, especially if it's a first date or an occasion date and you're really not sure what the expectations are.

Let's face it, planning your date-night outfit can kind of suck the fun out of actually going on the date and can be something you're worried about the whole day before. Whether it's a first date and you want to make a good impression, or it's your 500th date with your long term partner it's understandable to want to look and feel good on a date, whatever the occasion is.

Luckily, we've broken down all of the key date night essential outfit ideas you could ever need for every type of date from casual to full glam. Plus, you can get a student discount on all of these looks too, so you won't break the bank.

Date night outfits

1. For drinks dates

For drinks dates start by defining what the atmosphere's going to be like. Are you going to a bar or to your local pub? If you know you're going somewhere that's more dressy but not super formal, the safe bet is jeans and a nice top, such as a Bridgerton inspired corset, a bodysuit or a satin shirt. If you want to be more comfy you can switch out jeans for leather trousers or flares, as let's face it comfort is key.

If the weather is warmer you could try out a denim mini skirt with a nice top or a casual day dress. Some statement heels or mules could elevate your drinks look, but if you're going somewhere casual or day drinks there's no reason why you can't just wear flat boots or trainers too.

2. For dinner dates

Dinner dates tend to be more fancy which means it's a great excuse to dress up, provided you're going somewhere with a dress code. Satin dresses are universally flattering and look great with heels and a simple bag for a classic dinner date look. Blazer dresses also make a good option if you don't want to wear something super tight if you're planning on comfortably eating a big meal.

Dinner dates mean you'll be sat down for the majority of the time, which means impractical heel styles are a yes. A pair of chunky platforms or lace up heels teamed with a simple bodycon or corset dress are always a winner.

3. For coffee dates

Coffee dates are definitely more casual and what you wear shouldn't have to be a big deal, but it can still be stressful to decide on what to wear. If you're meeting up for coffee, the expectation isn't going to be super high to wear a cute outfit so the key is to just wear something that you're comfortable with such as your favourite jeans, flares or skirt with a simple top or bodysuit.

If the weather's a bit colder you can team a nice jumper or sweatshirt with faux leather leggings or your comfiest jeans. However, if it's warmer weather a cute midi skirt with a t-shirt or a midi dress over a t-shirt and Dr Martens is the perfect casual look.

4. For picnic dates

Picnic dates mean the weather's going to be nice and you're going to be outside, so you can live out your best Cottagecore fantasies. Whether you opt for a midi, maxi or mini dress there are loads of styles that would look cute for an outside date from summery florals, to pastels or loose satin styles.

If dresses aren't your thing, a skirt teamed with a crop top can also work well, but be careful to choose a length that's not going to rise up when you sit down. For a wind safe look, a jumpsuit or boiler suit is also a great option, especially if you don't want to expose your legs. Finish off your look with some high top trainers or sandals, gold jewellery and a light denim jacket or cardigan to keep you warm in case it gets windy or cold later on in the day.

5. For movie dates

Movie dates are super fun, but actually you do spend most of the time sitting in the dark so you might be thinking eh, who care what I wear?

If you're still keen to make a good impression, try faux leather leggings with a cute sweatshirt or hoodie for a comfortable and casual outfit. Jeans are always a viable option too but you don't need to worry about wearing a nice top like a corset or lace bodysuit, instead just wear your fave t shirt, crop top or every day bodysuit instead.

Remember the cinemas tend to be pretty cold as they love turning up the air con, so make sure you bring a jacket or sweatshirt to wear during the movie.

6. For lunch dates

Lunch dates tend to be more casual than dinner dates, so you don't need to worry about turning up in a dress and heels (unless there's a super strict dress code!) Of course, this depends on where you're going for lunch, if you're going to Nando's you can pretty much turn up in leggings and a hoodie if you want. But if you do want to make a bit more effort than your every day loungewear, try a casual jumpsuit, jeans or Bfaux leather trousers and a bodysuit and trainers.
